A Teen Took Danny DeVito’s Cutout to Prom, So He Brought Hers to Paddy’s Pub
Last month, Allison Closs decided that instead of taking some random high school guy to prom, she’d opt for someone a little more mature. More fringe. More… inanimate. So she showed up to her dance with a cardboard cutout of actor Danny DeVito, complete with a tie and boutonniere, which she wheeled around on one of those weird plastic scooters for toddlers while they posed for couples’ photos and, presumably, danced a little like this.
On Monday, DeVito took their relationship to the next level—lugging a cardboard cutout of Closs onto the set of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for a date at Paddy’s Pub, the BBC reports. Co-star Rob McElhenney captured the second date on Instagram.
Like any pair of star-crossed lovers, DeVito and Closs had to overcome a few major obstacles. At 73, DeVito is technically a little too old to attend Carlisle High School’s prom, an issue that couldn’t have been helped by Frank Reynolds’s questionable history with underage girls. And at 17, Closs is way too young to be hanging out in a bar, especially one plagued by junkies and illegal gambling rings, though, to be fair, it’s not like teens haven’t been there before.
But at the end of the day, logic, reason, and the confines of the law couldn’t keep DeVito and Closs apart—and, from the way she tells it, it sounds like that’s a good thing.
“Making things work with a human date can be so exhausting,” Closs told the New York Post.
“Danny’s not like that. He just goes with the flow… We never argue, never fight. Plus, he treats me the way a woman should be treated.”
