3 men rescued off Biliran waters after boat capsizes

TACLOBAN CITY — Three men were rescued off the waters of Naval in Biliran province after their motorized pump boat capsized Wednesday afternoon.

The survivors were identified as Rain Bautista, 26; Reynaldo Ramonida, 69; and William Guinto, 33, all residents of Barangay Caniha, Calubian town in Leyte.

Petty Officer 2nd class Dan Asis of the Coast Guard station in Naval town said that the sea incident took place at about 3:20 p.m. just 30 meters away from the shoreline.

“According to them, sea water entered their small motorized banca, which was the reason why it capsized,” Asis said.

They were immediately rescued by members of the Naval Coast Guard whose station is just located within the town port at Barangay Santo Rosario.

The Naval rescue team also assisted in the rescue operation which just lasted less than an hour. Asis said that the three men were to board a ship bound for Cebu.

“They were okay and now temporarily taking shelter with their respective relatives here in Naval,”Asis said.

The motorboat could have capsized due to heavy rains and strong winds spawned by tropical depression “Domeng,” he added. /je
