Cops nab babysitter for alleged kidnapping of 8-day-old infant

LEGAZPI CITY—A babysitter in Virac town in Catanduanes province was arrested Friday for allegedly kidnapping an 8-day-old infant, Bicol police said in a report.

The unidentified mother of the infant reported to the police that upon returning to their home at 2 p.m., the babysitter Jocelyn Cruzada, a resident of Castilla town in Sorsogon, and the baby were gone.

Police launched a search and learned that Cruzada was taking the baby to Tabaco City.

At around 6 p.m., Cruzada was arrested at Tabaco City immediately after her arrival at the city’s sea port.

Senior Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said that investigation by Tabaco police is ongoing and that the motives of Cruzada are still unknown.

Meanwhile, the baby was recovered by police from Cruzada. The child will be taken back home to the family on Saturday. /jpv
