Carpio pays tribute to Golez: PH lost a ‘true patriot’

Expressing grief over the passing of former National Security Adviser Roilo Golez, acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio said the country has lost a “true patriot.”

“He was an indefatigable defender of the WPS (West Philippine Sea),” Carpio said in a statement. “He embraced lawfare as a peaceful means of asserting our sovereign rights in the WPS.”

“His death strengthens our resolve to carry on,” Carpio added.

Like Golez, Carpio is an advocate of protecting the country’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.

Golez, whose sudden death has surprised many, was even interviewed over radio DZRH on Monday morning. He called for transparency in government’s actions on issues involving China, following reports that a Chinese military plane has refueled in Davao.

His last tweet posted 12 hours ago says “Philippines, My Philippines. Beautiful Philippines.” /ee
