Two killed in Baguio construction accident

BAGUIO CITY – Two people were buried alive here on Wednesday afternoon when portions of Sandico Street collapsed near a construction site, dragging the makeshift office of FC Laranang Construction.

Workers from neighboring work sites raced to the area to help dig out a man and a woman from the mud at about 2 p.m., but they were already dead when the rescuers pulled them out.

According to Rafael Valencia, one of the first responders from 911-On Call, the man was an engineer.

He said the collapse happened during strong rains. The accident site was near a residential area here and behind an elementary school.

The bodies of the two victims were brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. /ee
