Decision on Japanese gaming tycoon Kazuo Okada’s case not yet final — DOJ
The resolution of the Parañaque Prosecutors Office dismissing the estafa complaint against Japanese gaming tycoon Kazuo Okada is still not final.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevara on Wednesday said the resolution by the Parañaque City Prosecutors’ Office may still be subject to motions for reconsideration or petitions for review.
“If upon review the DOJ sees it differently, the resolutions may be set aside, reversed or modified accordingly,” the DOJ chief said in a text message to reporters.
The Parañaque Prosecutors’ resolution dismissing the complaint filed by Tiger Resorts Leisure & Entertainment Inc. (TRLEI) against Okada has been dismissed.
However, the resolution was leaked and posted in social media before it was officially given to the parties to the case.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) already took over the case and Guevarra ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation on the leakage.
Parañaque Prosecutor Amerhassan Paudac as well as acting Prosecutor General Jorge Catalan Jr. already recused themselves from handling the case.
Catalan was the City Prosecutor of Makati when one of the complaints against Okada has been dismissed. /vvp
