BE DARING: Go out. Be brave. Have fun. Be daring.

These are just a few of the pieces of advice veteran songbird Regine Velasquez has been passing on to pop sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose.

The young singer-actress, recently turned 24 (May 17), has been emboldened to step out of her comfort zone both personally and professionally on advice of more seasoned Regine.

“I used to be afraid of doing birit songs, but through Ate Regine’s prodding, I have been inspired to try that new territory as well,’’ she told us in a recent interview.

Regine has also been instrumental in pushing Julie Ann to go on and a have a life off showbiz. Open your heart, the more senior songstress admonishes.

Julie Ann acknowledges that the busy, crazy schedule of a showbiz performer allows little time for personal happiness. She’s trying to follow Regine’s advice.

Julie Ann has been going on a tour with Regine and Christian Bautista in a concert series called “3 Stars, 1 Heart.” Their next stop is in Dubai on June 16.

JULIE ON A ROLL: Julie is currently on a roll, swamped with multifarious activities.

Her daytime drama program “My Guitar Princess” is doing very well, ratings wise. Her role as the aspiring singer Celina is so close to home that she finds the whole exercise part of her playtime, together with co-stars Gil Cuerva and Kiko Estrada.

The public’s warm reception to her single “Nothing Left” is also keeping Julie inspired furthermore.

“I want to write more songs now.’’

In June, Julie Ann issues another single, “Tayong Dalawa,” part of her upcoming EP for release on June 29.

Julie Ann also became the last cover girl of Cosmopolitan magazine, whose print edition closed in May.

MOTHER MOVIES: No one could be more deserving than Marichu Vera-Perez Maceda, who was feted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines in an event, Spotlight on Mothers of Philippine Cinema, held June 9 at the Cinematheque Manila.

Manay Ichu grew up in the movies, an heiress to Sampaguita Pictures, which produced film classics and big stars.
