Village councilor shot dead in Davao del Norte  

DAVAO CITY – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a village official in Carmen, Davao del Norte on Thursday, police said.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, the spokesperson of the Southern Mindanao police, said the gunmen fired at Santos Samoranos in Barangay Sto. Niño around 10:50 a.m.

The 65-year-old village councilor was aboard his motorcyle and on his way to Barangay Poblacion from his home in Barangay Lapaz.

Driz said investigation showed there were two assailants.

Samoranos was seriously wounded and was rushed to the Carmen District Hospital by responders, but he died along the way from multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the identities and motive of the perpetrators. /ee
