Irish man arrested
An Irish national was placed behind bars for a series of traffic violations and for allegedly assaulting the responding police officers Saturday in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Case investigator SPO1 Anthony Rivera identified the suspect as Jaime Andrew Dovine, 30, of UPH16 Flair Tower, North Reliance, Brgy. Ilayan, Mandaluyong City.
Prior to his arrest, Dovine, who works as a call center trainer in Ortigas, was traversing a one-way street along Rizal Avenue in Manila on June 16 at around 10 a.m. when traffic enforcers from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau flagged him down.
Dovine, however, attempted to dodge arrest by driving away his vehicle, a Mitsubishi Lancer with plate number PQH 534, towards a checkpoint at the corner of Soler and T. Alonzo Streets but was tailed by the police.
Upon confrontation, Dovine, who was allegedly intoxicated, reportedly began to curse at the cops, prompting officers to apprehend him.
Dovine was brought to the Manila Police District Headquarters (MPD-HQ) and charged for violation of Article 4136 or driving without license and Article 151 or resistance and disobedience.
Apart from the traffic violation charges, the suspect was also charged with alleged direct assault.
Dovine, however, denies the accusation.
“I was held for two and a half hours on the roadside. There was about 20 of them. I swore a lot but how would I threaten them if there were 20 of them and one of me,” Dovine said. (Hans Amancio)
