Duterte honors slain cop

President Rodrigo Duterte has posthumously conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the Rank of Kalasag to the police chief of a town in Isabela who was killed in a recent antidrug operation.

The President visited the wake of slain Senior Insp. Michael Angelo Tubaña on Thursday afternoon and personally extended his sympathies to the police official’s wife, Joana Marie.

The Rank of Kalasag is awarded to individuals who lost their lives as a direct result of their participation in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

Posthumous promotion

Tubaña, 31, the police chief of Mallig, Isabela, died last June 17 after he was shot during an antidrug operation in Barangay Centro 1 in the town.

Two suspects were arrested the following day in Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Tubaña was posthumously promoted to the next higher rank of chief inspector and was also awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan.

The President was welcomed at the Isabela Police Provincial Office by Gov. Faustino Dy III, Ilagan City Mayor Evelyn Diaz, Mallig Vice Mayor Diosdado Felipe and Senior Supt. Mariano Rodriguez, acting provincial director.

The President later went to the Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz Station Hospital in Ilagan to confer the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan on 10 wounded soldiers.
