Most Canadian Men Have Unhealthy Lifestyles, No Brainer Study Says

A study commissioned by a men’s health organization has found out what we Canadians have always known—Canadian men are unhealthy as hell.

The study, released earlier this month by the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation, looked not at disease rates but at unhealthy behaviours. The unhealthy factors they looked at include smoking, poor sleep habits, not exercising enough, eating like shit, and drinking your face off.

In a press release, the organization said that the study surveyed 2,000 men aged from 19 to 94 across the country, asking them about their lifestyle. They found that 62 percent of men eat poorly, 54 percent don’t sleep enough, 59 percent don’t exercise enough, 20 percent smoke them ciggies, and 39 percent drink too much.

The researchers added up how many of these behaviours the men took part in to see just how truly gross they are. If you had three or more of the behaviours you were deemed unhealthy (42 percent), if you had two you were considered “borderline” (31 percent), with one you were healthy (22 percent), and none you were “very healthy” (5 percent) but probably not fun at all to hang out with. They also released a nifty little infographic that can help you figure out where you fit on the scale.

While this is the foundation’s first study, it doesn’t offer any corresponding women’s data for comparison. It also neglected to mention what happens if you’re a REAL MAN and go for five for five bad habits. I, myself, am batting 1.000—making me [shuffles notes]… extremely unhealthy and likely to die at any moment, I guess. I hack the darts on a daily basis, I’m lucky if I get five hours of sleep at night, I go to the gym but it’s infrequent at best, as I’m from Alberta I eat pretty much only meat and potatoes, and I enjoy drowning myself in booze. All in all I really hit it out of the park here.

God, I need to get my shit together.
