Military belittles communist ‘threat’ in Duterte SONA

THE military does not see any terror threat in President Rodrigo Duterte’s upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 23, its spokesman said in an interview with media on Tuesday.

At the same time, Col. Noel Detoyato, AFP public affairs chief, belittled the communists, saying their “capability” during the SONA are the rallies outside the Batasan Pambansa where the President will be delivering his speech.

Last week, the military said that the communist rebels were out to destabilize the Duterte administration, citing documents obtained from former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who have surrendered. DEMPSEY REYES
