Some families return home as water in Marikina River recedes

Families in Marikina City affected by floods due to monsoon rains have already returned home as the waters in Marikina river have gone down substantially.

At least 46 families have already returned to their residences, according to a bulletin from the Marikina local government.

All in all, more than 70 families or 300 individuals have been evacuated since Tuesday by the response teams from Marikina and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Out of the 70 families, 26 families or 117 individuals are still staying evacuation centers: one family is in Malanday Elementary School while 25 others are in Marikina Elementary School.

However, the local government assured that as of Wednesday, all areas in the city are akreadt cleared of flooding.

In the live video feed of the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO), Marikina river’s water level was at 15.8 meters as of 6:30 p.m., prompting the local government to scale down the alert to the first alarm.   /vvp
