‘Henry’-induced rains cause landslides, floods, displace thousands in affected areas — NDRRMC
HEAVY rains induced by tropical depression “Henry” resulted in two landslide incidents and floods that affected thousands of families in parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and the Visayas although no fatalities have been reported, according to a government-run disaster agency.
In its situational report released on Wednesday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the landslides occurred in Olongapo City and in Maragondon, Cavite.
In Olongapo City, two families were evacuated from Bajac village while a house was partially damaged by the landslide that took place last week.
The landslide in Maragondon, Cavite happened on Tuesday as “Henry” made its exit from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The NDRRMC said the landslide happened at Kaybiang Tunnel Road, rendering it unpassable by authorities.
On Monday, a flooding incident was monitored in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, affecting 4,689 families or 11,020 persons.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces were flooded on Tuesday, prompting Malacanang to suspend classes and work in the affected areas. DEMPSEY REYES
