LPA exits PH but 2 other storms to trigger monsoon rains—Pagasa

THE low pressure area (LPA) off Batanes exited Philippine territory but two other nearby tropical storms would continue to trigger monsoon rains, the state-run weather bureau said on Wednesday.

“Although it has chances of intensifying into a storm, the center of the LPA has already exited the borderline of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR),” weather specialist Gener Quitlong of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

As of 6 a.m., the LPA was 725 kilometers (km) northeast of Basco, Batanes, which is unlikely to affect the country.

Tropical storm “Bebinca” was 945 km west of extreme northern Luzon, packing maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 90 kph.

Meanwhile, severe tropical storm “Leepi” was 1,610 km northeast of extreme northern Luzon, with winds of 80 kph and gusts of 110 kph.

Although both storms are also outside PAR, they will still trigger the southwest monsoon or “habagat” which will bring rains in most parts of Luzon for the day, Quitlong added.

Monsoon rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Group of Islands.

Zambales and Bataan will have occasional rains with possible flooding and landslides due to scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers also caused by the southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
