Typhoon outside PH to enhance monsoon rains over Luzon — Pagasa
LUZON will continue to experience monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon “Soulik” outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state-run weather bureau said on Monday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), an “orange” rainfall warning was raised in Zambales, which means intense rainfall of 15 to 30 millimeters per hour (mm/hr) may persist for the next three hours with threatening floods.
“Yellow” rainfall warning was raised in Bataan which means heavy rainfall of 7.5 to 15 mm/hr may persist for the next three hours with possible flooding in low-lying areas and river channels.
As of 7 a.m., Soulik was 1,670 kilometers (km) east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 185 kph.
The typhoon is moving west- northwest and is still unlikely to enter the country, weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.
However, the weather disturbance will still influence rains brought by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales and Bataan.
Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mindoro provinces and Northern Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers becayse of localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
