Agri damage in Cagayan due to Typhoon ‘Ompong’ estimated at P4.6B
At least P4.6 billion worth of agricultural crops were damaged following the onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong” in the province of Cagayan, its governor said on Monday.
The Cagayan province has already been placed under the state of calamity after “Ompong” directly hit the province.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said crops in the entire province were wiped out.
Ompong made landfall over the Cagayan at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday with strong winds of 205-kilometer per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 255 kph.

“Ang tinataya naming damage sa ating mga crops, livestock, and fishery, umaabot po ng P4.6 billion,” Mamba said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.
“About to be harvested na ang mga crops namin especially rice and corn pero dumapa na po lahat ng iyon, wala na lahat, parang plantsado po iyon,” he added.
Ompong severely hit the northern part of the country over the weekend and left at least 64 people dead.
