SUCCESS announces new chair and celebrates 45 years

New board for Vancouver-based immigrant service agency SUCCESS

It’s been 45 years since SUCCESS, one of the largest non-profit social services agencies in B.C., opened its doors. The milestone was celebrated on September 30 at a special luncheon attended by more than 300 guests.

Also marking the event was the announcement of a new board chair — Terry Yung.

“As a long-term SUCCESS volunteer and immigrant myself, I am honoured to serve as chair,” said Yung. “I’m looking forward to working with a talented and committed board and staff team to further our priorities of delivering affordable housing to help address this critical need, as well as in seniors care to support this rapidly growing demographic.”

Guests were treated to video presentations that showcased the significant milestones that have shaped the Chinese agency in the past 45 years, as well as memorable moments from the SUCCESS on the Hill event, which took place in Ottawa in May. Since its modest beginnings, SUCCESS has grown to 30 service locations in B.C. and three offices in China, South Korea and Taiwan.

SUCCESS also welcomed six new members to its board of directors: Rebecca Clapperton Law, Lauren Liang, Dr. Joy Masuhara, Helen Song, Kathleen Wong and Terry Wong.

“On behalf of SUCCESS, I would like to convey our sincere gratitude to immediate past chair Donnie Wing for his commitment and thoughtful leadership,” said Queenie Choo, CEO of SUCCESS. “We look forward to working with the new board of directors led by Terry Yung as SUCCESS continues to provide innovative programming to newcomers and Canadians and advocate for the needs of vulnerable populations.”
