Roque pulls off surprise, will run for senator, after all

FORMER presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. surprised everyone on Wednesday when he filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for senator at the Commission on Elections and not as partylist representative.

Appearing at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office, Roque said he would be running under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the newly formed party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Prior to filing his CoC, Roque said that he would be running as partylist representative for Luntiang Pilipinas in the 2019 midterm elections.

Roque announced initially that he would be running for the Senate but was discouraged by President Rodrigo Duterte, saying he will not win.

Asked what prompted the change of heart, Roque said being a senator was what he always wanted. LIEZELLE ROY
