Employee falls from rooftop of Legazpi City mall

LEGAZPI CITY — A mall employee here died after he fell from the rooftop of a five-story shopping center located at this city’s business district Thursday afternoon, police said.

Supt. Aldwin Gamboa, Legazpi City police chief, said the victim Richard Escorel, 30, a resident of Monreal town in Masbate province, fell from the rooftop of the mall where he works as a housekeeper. He landed on the concrete street leading to the parking area at around 5 p.m.

The victim died on the way to the Albay Doctor’s Hospital just around 26 minutes after he fell.

Gamboa said they are still investigating whether the incident was an accident or if there was foul play involved.

“So far, we could not yet establish the cause of the fall. We are still checking with the mall management what the victim was doing on the rooftop and who was with him when the incident happened,” Gamboa said. /ee
