13 informants receive P3.2-M in cash rewards for helping govt anti-drug operations

THIRTEEN informants received cash rewards amounting to P3.2 millionfrom the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday for providing information that led to 19 successful anti-drug operations.

The informants who went by their aliases Efren, El Guapo, Garfield, Aser, RK, Cobra, Ada, Spade, Chard, Bungo, Abe, Dang, and Bantay received their money from PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino at agency’s headquarters.

The heads of the informants were covered with black cloth to hide their identities.

The cash rewards varied depending on the depth of information and the resulting drug operation.

“Efren” received the largest amount at P986,889.2 after he tipped PDEA with information that led to two successful anti-illegal drug operations in the south of Metro Manila on March 23 when 2,815.50 and 13,785.90 grams of shabu were seized in buy-bust operations in Makati and in Alabang, Muntinlupa respectively.

Other informants received the following cash prizes: P976,583.26 for “El Guapo”; P500,000 for “Garfield”; P205,992.13 for “Aser”; P101,921.23 for “RK”; P101,535.68 for “Cobra”; P75,389.23 for “Ada”; P60,205.12 for “Spade”; P59,040 for “Chard”; P45,727.78 for “Bungo”; P25,907.35 for “Abe”; P23,313.04 for Dang; and P14,402.50 for “Bantay”.

The cash rewards given to confidential informants is part of PDEA’s “Operation Private Eye” to enlist public support in the government’s anti-drug campaign, which started in 2017.

PDEA also rewarded six of its operating units up to P2.3 million for their successful anti-drug operations.

The PDEA-Intelligence and Investigation Service received the biggest reward with P956,617.16 after its successful three buy-bust operations from September 24 to 26 which resulted in the arrest of five drug personalities, including a Chinese, and confiscation of 24,039.72 grams of shabu worth P144 million.

Other PDEA operating units who were given cash rewards were Central Luzon (P722,305.48), Western Visayas (P292,434.35), Special Enforcement Services (P224,339.78), National Capital Region (P68,445.53), and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (P39,450.70).
