Central Luzon cop chiefs reshuffled for midterm polls

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The chiefs of police of 16 towns and cities in seven Central Luzon provinces have been replaced at the start of the midterm election period.
The reshuffling affected police chiefs in nine Nueva Ecija towns, 4 Zambales towns, two towns in Bulacan and a town in Bataan.
Chief Supt. Joel Coronel, regional police director, announced the revamp on Saturday (Jan. 12), explaining that their transfer “did not automatically mean that the chiefs of police were underperforming in their duties.”
“They have already stayed in their position for the maximum allowable period of two years,” Coronel said in a statement.
The police officers’ reassignments were deliberated and approved by our Regional Oversight Committee,” he said.
“At the same time, it is the nature of police work, especially police officials to be assigned to different fields to further test their capabilities,” Coronel added.
He said he ordered all provincial and city police offices to crack down on criminals and gun-for-hire syndicates to ensure peaceful polls in May./lzb
