National University seeks to solidify its hold of the top spot as it tangles with University of Santo Tomas today in the UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Bullpups and the Tiger Cubs take the floor at 1 p.m.
Defending champion Ateneo, hoping to arrest back-to-back losses suffered from the hands of NU, plays University of the East to cap a four-game bill at 3 p.m.
Both games will be aired live on S+A Channel 23.
Coming off a back-to-back elimination head-to-head sweep against the Blue Eaglets, the Bullpups hold the league-best record at 7-1.
Big boys Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao, along with offensive options Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea and Ernest Felicida, will be the vital cogs for NU.
Sporting a 4-4 record in fifth spot, UST trails joint third placers Ateneo and Adamson University (5-3) by a game in the race for the last Final Four berth.
Ace rookie Mark Nonoy, who posted his second triple-double of the season in last Sunday’s 85-63 conquest of the Junior Warriors, will be the Tiger Cubs’ main weapon.
Kai Sotto, who scored 24 points, including 3-of-3 from the three-point area, and pulled down 18 boards, in a 71-78 loss to the Bullpups last Sunday, has been producing MVP-like numbers the Eaglets this season.
