A LOW pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may intensify into the country’s first tropical depression in 2019 when it enters either this Friday or Saturday, the state-run weather bureau said.

The weather disturbance was last seen 2,395 kilometers (km) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in an early advisory on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “Amihan” continues to affect parts of Luzon and Visayas, it said.

Cloudy skies with light rain showers are expected in Batanes and the Babuyan group of Islands, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers will be experienced over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and the rest of Cagayan.

The Bicol region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and northern Samar are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

The rest of Metro Manila will have partly cloudy skies.
