City of Stars

KUYA GERMS – The late lamented Kuya Germs (German Moreno) worked long and hard to have Quezon City officially proclaimed City of Stars. Kuya Germs lobbied with the QC Council and the then incumbent mayor (Sonny Belmonte) and vice mayor (Herbert Bautista) for the approval of a resolution introduced by Councilor Dingdong Avanzado.
Kuya Germs dipped into his own pocket to hold a parade and stage a show announcing that QC had been named City of Stars. Which was typical of Kuya Germs, not minding the expense and hard work for the love of showbiz. Hope that a new leader will continue the good work of Kuya Germs, who also used to be the president of the Actors’ Guild or KAPPT (Kapisanan ng mga Artistang Pilipino sa Pelikula at Telebisyon).

GERMAN ‘Kuya Germs’ Moreno
EVEN WITHOUT – Actually, even without the official tag City of Stars, QC is, indeed, one.
Look, the two big networks, GMA and ABS-CBN, are in QC. In fact, near each other. Ditto the government network (PTV4) and sequestered radio-TV stations.
Sampaguita and LVN were in QC. Of course, LVN is no more, but Sampaguita has been turned into an events place, with tress and flowers all around.
As expected, stars reside in areas near those studios. Think White Plains, Ayala Heights, Xavierville, La Vista, New Manila, and Morato-Timog-Roces.

THEATERS, THEATERS – It is said that more than one-fourth of all theaters in Metro Manila are in QC, inside its many shopping malls.
As they come to mind: Gateway and Ali Mall, UP Town Center, Fisher Mall, Trinoma, Centris, Ayala Terraces, Robinson Magnolia and Novaliches, Eastwood (where the Walk of Fame initiated by Kuya Germs is a big attraction).
Plus all those giant cineplexes of SM: Sta. Mesa, North, Fairview, Novaliches, Tandang Sora.
Come to think of it, QC can mount its own filmfest. But leave that to Metro Manila, which is practically nationwide in scope.
