DARAGA, Albay mayor Carlwyn Baldo was rushed to the hospital after experiencing an asthma attack and high blood pressure, hours after he was arrested by police late Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Supt. Arnold Ardiente, director of Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG)-Bicol, told The Manila Times in a phone interview that Baldo was rushed to the UST Legazpi Hospital at about 11:30 p.m.

He said Baldo had difficulty of breathing inside his cell and started to hyperventilate.

Ardiente said Baldo’s blood pressure shot up and experienced an asthma attack.

The mayor did not disclose to authorities of any illnesses while he was being booked, Ardiente said.

As of posting time, Baldo remains in the hospital.

Baldo was arrested by authorities on Tuesday by virtue of a search warrant that resulted in the seizure of unlicensed firearms in his residence where he was arrested. His blood pressure at that time was at 130/90.

He is facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591 and 9516 or the Illegal Possession of Explosives.

Baldo has been tagged as the alleged mastermind behind the assassination of AKO Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe, who was shot dead, along with security escort SPO1 Orlando Diaz, on December 22, 2018.

Six suspects under police custody identified Baldo as the brains behind the killing.

The PNP-CIDG filed charges against him for conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service and graft and corruption. RHAYDZ BARCIA, ROY NARRA
