President Duterte on Wednesday revealed the eight senatorial candidates he will support in the mid-term elections in May.

Duterte said they are former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, former political affairs adviser Francis Tolentino, former Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa, reelectionist Sonny Angara and Cynthia Villar, Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano, and Ilocos Norte Gov.  Imee Marcos.

“Si Angara, si Pia, si Cynthia Villar. Of course, they supported me and I have to support them. That’s the right thing to do,” he said in an assembly of tricycle drivers and operators in Pasay City.

Angara is one of the senators who pushed for Duterte’s Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law in the Senate. The President is close with the Villars.

Cayetano is a supporter of the President and an advocate for women’s rights. Duterte said Imee was one of the few government officials who supported him during the presidential elections last 2016.

Duterte said that he will vote for Freddie Aguilar for being the only singer he knows who conveys a message in every song he writes.

The Chief Executive described Go as a hardworking man and is as dedicated as him in helping the people. Duterte praised Tolentino as a very kind and hardworking man.

Duterte renewed his appeal to voters to put the country in mind when they vote in the polls.  (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
