6 NPA rebels slain in Camarines Sur clash

LEGAZPI CITY—Six suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with Army soldiers in a remote village in Tinambac town, Camarines Sur Wednesday morning.

According to 1st Lt. Felise Solano, spokesperson of the military’s Southern Luzon Command, joint elements of the 96th and the 97th Military Intelligence Company, 5th Intelligence and Security Unit, and 83rd Infantry Battalion were conducting an intelligence operation at about 6 a.m. in the area when they encountered 15 members of the NPA.

A 20-minute firefight then ensued, which resulted in the killing of the six rebels and the recovery of four M16 rifles, a grenade launcher, and personal belongings.

Solano said as the rebels fled the area, the bodies of their slain companions were left behind.
