Man accused of raping teen daughter slain in Batangas buy-bust

SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines – A man accused of repeatedly raping his 15-year-old daughter was killed by the police in a buy-bust operation in Mabini, Batangas, on Tuesday evening, authorities said on Wednesday.
Senior Supt. Edwin Quilates, Batangas police chief, said the slain suspect, Joel Manongsong, was a diving instructor in the resort town of Mabini.
Quilates said Manongsong was also involved in the illegal drug trade as reported by residents in the community.
Police conducted the buy-bust operation around 8:30 p.m. in Barangay Solo.
During the transaction, Manongsong allegedly tried to resist arrest by shooting at the undercover policeman. The police were forced to shoot back and hit the suspect, who died on the way to the Mabini General Hospital.
Police said Manongsong’s wife and daughter went to the police station last week to report the sexual assault which happened “ten times” in the past.
Police said they recovered a .38-caliber revolver and eight sachets of suspected shabu from the slain suspect.
Last week, a man accused of raping his four-month-old infant and another suspect in the rape of an eight-month-old were also killed in separate police shootouts in Tarlac and Manila, respectively. /cbb
