LTO to impatient motorists: Don’t blow horns, put wings on cars instead

MANILA, Philippines — “Pwede po kayo maglagay ng pakpak sa sasakyan kung masyado kayong mainipin.”
(You can put wings on your vehicle if you’re too impatient.)
This is how the Land Transportation Office – National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) called out “impatient” motorists who abuse the use of their horns when on the road.
In a Facebook post, the LTO-NCR said the blowing of horns is for giving out warnings, not to urge other vehicles to move faster.
“Paalala. No. 71 ang gamit ng busina ay para magbigay ng babala. Mali pong bumusina dahil pinagmamadali ang nasa harapan,” the post read.
(Reminder. No. 71 the use of horns is for giving warnings. It’s not right to use your horn to make the car in front of you hurry.)
It added that something could be blocking the other driver’s way or could be letting pedestrians cross the street.
“Hindi niyo nakikita na hindi sila maka go kasi merong tumatawid o me harang sa kalye,” it added.
(You can never tell if the reason why they can’t go is that someone is crossing the street or something is blocking their way.)
It then proceeded to tell motorists to put wings to their cars so that they would not get impatient on the road.

This viral post accumulated at least 4,100 shares, 2,000 reactions and 500 comments.
In a comment, the LTO-NCR explained that it was their intention to “lighten things up” and not to be sarcastic.
“Hindi po intensyon na maging sarcastic ng Admin. Yung pong pakpak is ONLY meant to lighten things up. Seryoso na po buhay at habang nag da drive ako malimit kong maranasan yan. Let us be positive about this,” it said.
(The admin did not intend to be sarcastic. The “wings” part is only meant to lighten things up. Life is already too serious and even as I drive, I often experience this. Let us be positive about this.)
It reminded motorists to always follow rules and guidelines on the road and not only when there are enforcers in place.
“Please start with yourselves, ang batas o anumang guidelines ay ibinibigay para merong panuntunan na susundin. ‘Wag na kayo maghintay ng enforcer,” it said.
(The law and guidelines are given for us to follow. Don’t wait for enforcers.)
“Kung susundin ang pagiging maayos na driver walang road rage at magiging safe tayong lahat,” the LTO-NCR added.
