Bam Aquino makes it to ‘Magic 12’

FORMER special assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has leapfrogged to the Magic 12 in a survey of senator wannabes, a pollster bared on Friday.

A Pulse survey showed Sen. Grace Poe leading the race to the Senate with 74.9 percent, followed by Sen. Cynthia Villar with 60.5 percent.

Go made it to 8th place with 44.7 percent, from December 2018’s 16th spot with 29.7 percent.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s 11-man Senate slate was officially announced on Thursday.

In the ticket are members of the ruling PDP-Laban party: Go, Maguindanao Rep. Zajid “Dong” Mangudadatu, former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd and former political adviser Francis Tolentino.

Duterte named six “guest” candidates in his slate: Villar, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano, Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and singer Freddie Aguilar.

Cayetano and former senator Lito Lapid ranked 3rd to 6th with 53.3 percent and 53 percent, respectively; Sen. Maria Lourdes “Nancy” Binay, 3rd to 7th with 50.1 percent;
Angara, 3rd to 9th with 48.8 percent; Pimentel, 5th to 11th with 45.5 percent; Go and former senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, 6th to 12th, with the latter gettng 44.3 percent; former Interior secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd, 7th to 14th with 41.8 percent; Marcos, 7th to 15th with 41.2 percent; and former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., 8th to 15th with 40.2 percent.

Sen. Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino 4th (38.5 percent) and former senator Sergio Osmena 3rd (37.7 percent) occupied 10th to 15th spots. Dela Rosa, who was ranked 8th to 15th in the last quarter’s survey, dipped to 11th to 16th places this time with 36.9 percent.

Ejercito ranked 15th to 16th with 32.8 percent and former senator Juan Ponce Enrile and Tolentino placed 17th to 18th with 23.3 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively.
The survey was conducted from January 26 to 31 among 1,800 likely voters aged 18 years and above. It had a ±2.3 percent margin of error at the 95 percent confidence level nationwide.
