BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Sen. JV Ejercito said on Saturday that he was fully aware of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) request not to campaign during their alumni homecoming.

He said only his friends got the cellphone holders that his supporters and those of fellow senatorial candidate Ronald de la Rosa, former Bureau of Corrections chief, gave away.

According to Ejercito, who is seeking re-election this 2019 midterm elections, he followed PMA policy.

“In fact pati car ko tinaggal stickers,” he said in a message to INQUIRER.net.

He also added that he never gave any instructions to his staff about giving away items, saying that some members of the media might even have asked for the items.

“No instructions to campaign inside. If ever, baka humingi mga reporters sa staff,” he added.

He said he was at the PMA, which is in Fort Gregorio del Pilar, to support officers belonging to PMA Class of 1988 who made him an honorary member back in 1998.

“I’ve been a fraternal brother for the past 20 years; 1998 pa ako na-adopt ng Class ’88,” he said. “Now that they are already generals and about to retire siguro in a few year’s time, at least makasama ko naman sila and show support to these gallant men in uniform, the gallant men of Class ’88 of Maringal.”

On Friday, Lt. Col. Harry Baliaga, PMA spokesperson, reminded alumni who were running for elective posts to refrain from politicizing the event, to respect the sanctity of the homecoming.

Alumni were allowed to join the parade, but honorary members were ordered to stay in their seats while the classes marched. /atm
