MANILA, Philippines – Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) hit its first P1 billion gross revenue in 2018 after 20 years of establishment, its top executive announced Tuesday.

CIAC president Jaime Alberto Melo said its gross revenue reached P1.07 billion last year, its first time to breach the one billion mark since the agency’s creation in 1995.

Alberto attributed the high revenue to Clark’s aeronautical and non-aeronautical operations.

“Numbers of airlines, flights, destinations and business activities increased ever since President Rodrigo Duterte called for greater utilization of Clark Airport,” Melo said in a statement.

“The marketability of Clark Airport and the civil aviation complex were keys to achieving this milestone,” Melo added.

On the average, Clark airport caters to 11,500 passengers and registers 246 international and 480 domestic flights every week.

Melo noted that the P1-billion gross revenue was a 32 percent increase from its previous record of P814.115 million.

CIAC’s net income also recorded an 80 percent (P141.94 million) increase in 2018.

Last year, about 2.6 million travelers went through Clark, which aims to host 4.5 million annual passengers by 2022. /cbb
