MANILA, Philippines — Senator JV Ejercito on Wednesday endorsed the mayoral candidacy of incumbent San Juan City Vice Mayor Janella Ejercito-Estrada, daughter of former Senator Jinggoy Estrada.

Ejercito made the endorsement during the campaign caravan of the pro-administration Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party at the San Juan City Hall.

Should she win, Janella would be replacing Mayor Guia Gomez, the mother of Sen. Ejercito, and would become the third-generation Estrada to hold the mayoral post of San Juan City.

FEATURED STORIES

The first to hold the post was her grandfather, former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.

Next to become San Juan City mayor was her father former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who served as mayor from 1992 to 2001, while Sen. JV Ejercito served as mayor from 2001 to 2010.

Senator JV Ejercito and former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who are both being endorsed by the HNP, reportedly had a feud in the run-up to the 2019 senatorial race.

The half-brothers also raised each other’s hands during a campaign rally of HNP last Feb. 12 in San Fernando City, Pampanga.

However, when asked about his relationship with his half-brother, during a campaign rally in Tondo, Sen. JV Ejercito said: “We’ll see. We’ll see how it goes. No comment.”  /muf
