GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Gary Alejano likened the so-called “narco list” to a “death list” because it may endanger the lives of politicians allegedly linked to illegal drugs.

“Parang itong narco list kasi, parang death penalty ito. Death list,” Alejano said on Thursday.

(This narco list, it’s like a death penalty. Death list.)

“E kung malagay ka doon at mapatay ka, sabihin lang, nasa listahan kasi. ’Yun ang ayaw natin na nasisira ‘yung proseso sa bansa by just announcing the names,” he added.

(If you’re put in the list and killed, they can just say it’s because you’re on the list. That’s what we don’t want, to ruin the process of this country by just announcing the names.)

Alejano, a Magdalo party-list representative, urged authorities to just file cases because doing so also publicizes their names.

“Kasuhan nila by filing cases na publicized na rin ‘yung mga pangalan nila. So hindi mo na kailangan i-publicize,” he said.

(Charge them by filing cases where their names are already publicized so there’s no need to publicize them further.)

“Pero yung mga walang basehan, i-publicize mo ‘yan at nagkamali ka, hindi mo na mababalik yung kanilang reputasyon,” he added.

(Those without basis, when you publicize them and make a mistake, you won’t be able to restore their reputations anymore.)
