Intel cops nab EPD policeman facing extort raps, admin case

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman facing administrative and criminal charges was arrested by joint operatives of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) and Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) on Saturday morning.

CITF police officer Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. identified the suspect as Police Officer 2 Edgar Santos.

Police arrested Santos while he was on duty as roving patrol officer at the Eastern Police District at about 1:30 a.m.

Santos’ arrest stemmed from a warrant issued on Jan. 28, 2019, by Manila Trial Court Presiding Judge Don Ace Marlano, of Branch 42, for the policeman’s outstanding estafa case.

Santos is one of the subjects in a foiled entrapment operation conducted by CITF in Marikina City on Dec. 10, 2018, after he allegedly extorted P100,000 from a certain Mrs. Rosana Lozada.

Administrative and criminal cases were filed against Santos on Jan. 3, 2019, at the Department of Justice (DOJ) for violations of the Republic Act 7610 or Robbery/Extortion. The case is still pending at the DOJ for preliminary investigation.

Santos is currently under the custody of the CITF. /jpv
