ABOUT P2 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in five separate packages by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday.

The drugs were profiled by Customs examiners, x-rayed and underwent K9 sweeping by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the bureau said.

Among the seized drugs were .027 kilograms of shabu, which were concealed inside an envelop from a certain J.C. Crisostomo of Marilao, Bulacan and was to be sent to Abraham Salas Jr. of Bahrain.

Also seized were .54 kilograms of Ecstacy worth P1.7 million from The Netherlands concealed inside a printer and was consigned to a certain Cristian Chan of San Juan.

Two shipments of marijuana (hemp gummy candies, dried leaves), declared as pancake mix and lotion from the United States, were consigned to Steven Marple of Antique and Betty Lu of LCG Marketing in Cagayan de Oro, and .0135 kilograms of cocaine, declared as toys from the United States, were consigned to a certain Jose Maristela of Makati City.

Port of NAIA District Collector Mimel Talusan said there was an incident involving a passenger who brought in drugs for his asthma but was listed in the PDEA as a dangerous drug.

“We are appealing to the public that some of these drugs especially marijuana to make a check first to the PDEA list for their own convenience,” Talusan said, adding that marijuana maybe legal in other countries but was listed as illegal by PDEA.

She said that small or big illegal shipments were easy to detect because of the training that Customs personnel had undergone and its state-of-the-art x-ray machines.

Customs officials are now conducting follow-up operations to all persons involved.

Talusan said Customs NAIA has a total record-breaking 39 drug busts since 2018 worth P370 million.

From January to March 2019, nine drug shipments were intercepted by the Customs officers and operatives in the port. BENJIE L. VERGARA
