PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) General Oscar Albayalde will not relieve the regional director of Calabarzon even after President Rodrigo Duterte “red flagged” two provinces under his jurisdiction for illegal drug activities.

Albayalde said based on the PNP’s monthly evaluation, Brig. Gen. Edward Carranza, has continued to put in a “good performance, so as of this time, we have no reason for the relief.”

Albayalde said, however, that there would be an investigation.

“Yes, that will be part of the oversight committee. Every time there are issues regarding the commanders on the ground, we conduct deliberations,” Albayalde told reporters in a press briefing in Filipino on Monday.

Albayalde said the investigation would be down to the station level but cited how police were “continuously working on our campaign against illegal drugs” and how “nothing changed in our campaign.”

“If they need a push, we will give them a push,” Albayalde said.

Duterte on April 17 in a campaign rally in Batangas City raised the “red flags” on Batangas and Lucena in Quezon because of the alleged proliferation of illegal drugs.

“This really makes me angry, so I said I will really go here. Lucena and Batangas have been red flagged. Tomorrow we will start to harvest. It’s my happiness to kill these sons of a b***h criminals,” he previously said.

Albayalde said that Batangas could be an easy target for drug syndicates because of its ports.

“There are a lot of illegal drugs there and of course, it’s an open sea. Drugs are really delivered there,” he said. ROY NARRA
