PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will be leaving a number of “letters of dismissal” before he flies to China for the Belt and Road Forum on Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the seventh Union Asia Pacific Regional Conference here in Pasay City on Tuesday, Duterte once again floated the termination of several government officials for corruption although he did not name them.

He hinted on firing all officials of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for their supposed unpreparedness for the El Niño.

In a speech earlier this month, Duterte said that he has no patience for those sitting on their duties in the wake of a water shortage hit Metro Manila.

He added that they could “either hack it or not.”

“You know, there are a lot of Filipinos here, engineers outside that are skilled but are not known. There are millions of Filipinos waiting outside, more brighter than you, more smart,” he said.

“But, they are not well-known because they are not politicians. I will not hesitate to replace you all,” he added.

In the past, Duterte has fired several high-ranking officials and heads of offices accused of corruption, excessive travels and abuse of power.

The list includes former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Ismael Sueno; National Irrigation Administration (NIA) chief Peter Lavina; Social Security System (SSS) commissioner Jose Gabriel “Pompee” Lavina; Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) Administrator Marcial Quirico Amaro 3rd; Commission on Higher Education chief Patricia Licuanan; Presidential Commission for Urban Poor (PCUP) chairman Terry Ridon and commissioners Melissa Aradanas, Manuel Serra Jr. and Joan Lagunda, among others.
