Meralco cuts rates in May

CONSUMERS will get a relief this month as the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will reduce rates by P0.2728 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for May.
This brings overall electricity rates to P10.2866 per kWh this month from P10.5594 per kWh in April.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Meralco said the slight decrease was due to reduced generation charge primarily because of lower rates from the independent power producers (IPPs) and power supply agreements (PSAs).
For May, generation charge went down by P0.0814 per kWh to P5.5508 per kWh from last month’s P5.6322 per kWh.
Typical households that consume 200 kWh will notice a decrease of P54.56 in their monthly bill; a 300-kWh consumption will see an P81.84 reduction; 400 kWh, P109.12; and 500 kWh, P136.40. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
