For the Tallahassee Police Department in Florida, USA, not every 911 call is a cause for alarm. Sometimes, a call can be used as an opportunity to inspire, too.

The police department took to its official Facebook page last May 7 to share a picture of Officer Joe White with a 6-year-old boy. As per the report from their patrol bureau, the boy was upset and apparently called 911 because he felt lonely and wanted a friend.

“Officer White arrived to meet the caller—a child who said he was lonely and wanted a friend,” the Tallahassee Police Department said. “He asked Officer White if he would be his friend.”

The post shared pictures of the young boy, one of which showed him holding a stuffed toy and with officer White, both smiling at the camera.

The police department added that White took the opportunity to explain to the boy how 911 worked and that it is used for emergencies.

“Officer White explained how 911 worked and was for emergencies,” the police department said. “More importantly, officer White said he’d be happy to be a friend. Our new friend got to sit in the police vehicle, he was given a stuffed animal and now has a friend at the Tallahassee Police Department!”  /ra
