Three Manila mayoral candidates made last-minute appeals after casting their ballots in separate polling precincts.

In one of the most anticipated mayoral races, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, former Mayor Alfredo Lim, and former Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso exuded confidence as they reiterated their plans for the city.

Clad in all-white attire, Estrada arrived at 11 a.m. at the P. Burgos Elementary School in Sta. Mesa and went through the process smoothly.

Estrada said that he is confident in securing the third term as Manila’s chief executive, adding that he wore all white with the hope for clean elections.

Asked about Moreno’s criticisms about the city’s garbage problem, Estrada retorted: “Ano bang nagawa niya? Naka tatlong term siya bilang vice mayor wala naman siyang nagawa.”

Estrada’s daughter, Jerika, who is running for councilor in the fourth district, also cast her votes. She was accompanied by his brothers Jacob and Jake.

Minutes after Estrada voted, his wife, former Sen. Loi Estrada, arrived to cast her votes and assure city residents that her husband is capable of running Manila’s affairs at the age of 82.

Moreno showed at 8 a.m. at the Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School in Tondo. It took him two attempts before the voting counting machine (VCM) accepted the ballot.

Domagoso urged Manileños to participate in this democratic process and exercise their right to vote.

“Sa araw na ito, mananaig ang boses ng taumbayan. Inaanyayahan ko po ang lahat ng Manileño na makilahok sa demokratikong proseso na ito at bumoto sa kani-kanilang mga presinto,” Domagoso said. “Panahon na po ng bagong dugo, bagong umaga at bagong simula sa Lungsod ng Maynila. Ano man po ang maging hatol ng bayan, ito po ay buong puso naming gagalangin at tatanggapin,” he added.

His running mate, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, cast her vote at her polling precinct in Legarda Elementary School in Sampaloc, the city’s fourth district.

Lim, on the other hand, cast his vote at the Rosauro Almario Elementary School In Tondo before 8 a.m. He belied rumors that he would withdraw in favor of Moreno. Lim served three terms as Manila mayor. (Erma Edera)
