MANILA, Philippines – Aparri, Cagayan virtually scorched and sizzled as it endured a record-high 57.6 degrees Celsius heat index Tuesday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the highest heat index so far this year was recorded in Aparri at around 2 p.m.

Pagasa explained that the heat index is the “apparent temperature or what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affecting the body.”

A heat index above 54 degrees Celsius is considered extremely dangerous and may likely cause heat stroke, characterized by dire signs and symptoms.  (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
