THE Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), may be able to complete its canvassing sooner than expected with almost half of the 167 certificates of canvass (CoCs) tabulated.

As of 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Director Frances Arabe of the Comelec’s Education and Information Division (EID) said that the NBOC has canvassed a total of 70 COCs since it started its official count on Tuesday.

Arabe said at the rate the canvassing was going, the NBOC may finish its tabulation by next week.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said that 130 CoCs would come from the automated local and overseas absentee voting, 35 from manual overseas voting, and one from detainee voting for a total of 167.

Among those canvassed on Wednesday were CoCs from the provinces of Antique, Catanduanes, Batanes, Sulgan Kudara, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Romblon, South Cotabato, Davao del Norte, Masbate, Nueva Ecija, Zamboanga Sibugay, Laguna, and Aklan and from the cities of Cebu City, CaloocanCity, and Marikina.

Also canvassed were CoCs from Spain, New Zealand, Italy, Vatican, New Delhi, Myanmar, Prague, The Hague, Berlin, Indonesia, Hanoi, Cairo, Brasilia, Dhaka and Port Morsby. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
