Manila Mayor-elect Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has vowed to “move heaven and earth” to clean the city.

“I have made a commitment to clean up Manila…Dugyot kami e. Papaliguan ko lang naman (We are filthy. I will give it a bath),” Domagoso said in a television interview.

Domagoso said he would address the trash problem, which outgoing Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada failed to solve in his six years in office.

“My promise to the people of Manila is that I would bring back the set time and day of collection,” he said.

The former vice mayor added that the garbage problem would be his priority, adding that he would hold the present trash contractor accountable.

He said he would revamp procurement procedures and accept more bids from trash contractors.

“Walang (No) friends friends. No, no,” he said.

He attributed the garbage problem to the decision of the Estrada administration to change the system of garbage collection.

Domagoso was proclaimed mayor of Manila on May 14.

On Tuesday night, Estrada conceded to Domagoso.

“By June 30, my 50 years in politics and public service will come to an end with sterling colors of honesty and genuine concerns for the poor,” the mayor said.

“There’s always life after politics,” he added as he thanked his supporters.

Domagoso’s running mate, reelectionist Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna Pangan, also secured a second term.
