LRT-2 operations to resume within the day on Sunday

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation-Light Rail Transit Authority (DOTr-LRTA) on Sunday morning said Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT 2) operations would resume within the day following the collision of two of its trains Saturday night.
The collision happened between the Cubao and Anonas stations where 30 passengers and four LRT-2 personnel sustained injuries. Five are still confined at World Citi Medical Center at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
Following the incident, LRTA Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya sought the creation of a fact-finding committee to probe the collision.
LRTA said the report on the investigation would be submitted “as soon as possible.”
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, Berroya and DOTr Undersecretary for Rail Timothy John Batan, meanwhile, said the department would shoulder the medical bills, follow-up checkups, and loss of income of those hurt in the incident.
DOTr-LRTA also assured the public that the LRT2 is a safe mode of transportation, calling the collision an “isolated incident”.
“The DOTr and LRTA assure the public that we are taking this incident very seriously, and are exerting all efforts to prevent this kind of incident from happening again,” the DOTr-LRTA said in a statement.
