THE Commission on Elections (Comelec), which sits as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), has nearly finished its tally of the certificates of canvass (CoCs) from Monday’s midterm polls and was now ready to proclaim the winning senators on Tuesday, May 21, a poll body official confirmed on Monday.

The tentative date for the proclamation of probable senators-elect is at 6 p.m., said Frances Arabe, Comelec-Education and Information Department assistant director.

The proclamation of winners in the party-list race is on Wednesday night, Arabe said.

The NBOC canvassed the three out of the remaining five CoCs, which accounted for 1,683,938 registered voters, on Monday night.

The NBOC completed counting the votes from Japan, and Abuja, Nigeria; and Isabela Province, where the Comelec held special elections in Barangay Dicamay I, Jones Isabela, after two armed men burned two vote counting machines last week.

The board will resume its session on Tuesday morning to canvass the CoC from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.

Asked whether or not President Rodrigo Duterte would attend the proclamation, Jimenez said that they were not sure, but added that it was something they were anticipating.

Duterte’s candidates dominated the senatorial race.

They are: Former top aide Christopher “Bong” Go, former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino, reelectionist Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd, former senator Pilar Juliana “Pia” Cayetano, former National Police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, reelectionist Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Ilocos Norte Gov. Maria Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos.
