FORMER Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales arrived in Manila on Tuesday night from Hong Kong where she was denied entry earlier in the day.

Morales was aboard Philippine Airlines (PAL) PR307, which landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) 2 past 9 p.m.

Former Foreign Affairs secretary Albert del Rosario met Morales who, along with her family, had travelled to Hong Kong for a vacation.

Instead, Morales said she was held for “about four hours without explaining any reason.”

Morales said that a ranking Hong Kong immigration official apologized.

She added that Hong Kong immigration officials later said that they would accommodate her and allow her to enter Hong Kong but she refused.

Morales said that it would be better for her to go back to Manila.

On learning of Morales’ predicament, Malacanang immediately directed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to help the former government official.

Morales and Del Rosario had filed a communication against Chinese President Xi Jinping in March before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for “implementing a systematic plan to control the contested sea and violating the rights of Filipino fishers.”

The two officials also said that Xi and other Chinese officials committed crimes within the jurisdiction of the ICC.

The complaint also accused Xi and other Chinese leaders of crimes against humanity by causing devastating environmental damage across nations.”
