AS his retirement nears, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde on Wednesday named three likely candidates  to succeed him.

Albayalde said while it was popular opinion that the next in line was Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, as chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), he said two others were as capable.

Echoing former PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa, who said on a Wednesday morning TV interview that Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan and Deputy Director Gen. Archie Gamboa were also suited to be next PNP chief, Albayalde noted that they all had “the credentials for it.”

“I think we have the same list naman–– as Gen. Bato Dela Rosa. Sila naman ang medyo senior at sila ang next in line besides kay General Eleazar who is class 87. Pero ang performance niya [Eleazar], he will do good also the same as Cascolan at saka si General Gamboa,” Albayalde told reporters.

Gamboa is PNP’s operations chief while Cascolan is the chief of the Directorial Staff.

“Good luck sa kanilang tatlo. I think they all have credentials. They all deserve to be the next chief PNP kahit sino man sa kanila,” Albayalde added.

The 55-year-old top policeman himself was NCRPO director before taking the reins of the national police force. He will retire in November. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
