Ex-Agriculture chief pleads not guilty to graft charge

FORMER Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala was arraigned on the graft charge which he and others were facing before the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division.
The Office of the Ombudsman filed the case this year in connection with the alleged monopoly on the supply of garlic.
Alcala, who is out on bail, pleaded “not guilty” during arraignment on Friday morning.
The court deferred the arraignment of the other accused who have pending motions, while two others were absent.
One other accused was arraigned in May as a condition for her motion to travel abroad. REINA C. TOLENTINO
